The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Reveal a Fresh Divinity, Labeling it Their Largest RPG to Date

The speculation surrounding The Game Awards was significant, notably after host Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling image of a strange statue. The question has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is working on a fresh Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer packed with memorable imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the literal opening of infernal gates.

A Different Direction

Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian stated ahead of time that a direct sequel to its beloved RPGs is not being worked on now.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This choice of words suggests that the team is likely designing a more action-oriented experience as opposed to another turn-based title. For now, this is speculation, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is widely praised and arguably it kicked off the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, branching plots, and deep class systems—traits that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.

Where many modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is full of specialized paths only possible with a particular class or origin with a personal story.

The series is also famously flexible, letting players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be completed in multiple ways, often in lateral fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you remembered something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.

The Journey Continues

It is these creative systems that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, the RPG community can get ready for another adventure in this groundbreaking franchise.
